Is NEAT the reason why your progress is slowing?

NEAT is your non-exercise activity thermogenesis - this is the movement you do that isn’t planned exercises.


This can be any activity or movement such as:

🛍 food shopping

👩‍💻 typing

🥱 fidgeting

🍳 cooking

🧽 cleaning


You NEAT plays a significant role in your rate of fat loss.


All these small movements add up throughout the day which impact energy expenditure/calories burnt throughout the day.

The further you find yourself in a calorie deficit, the more you’ll notice you naturally move less. This is the body trying to preserve energy. 🏃‍♂️ ->🪑


AND... The less you move, the less of a deficit you will find yourself in. Therefore risking the rate or fat loss and slowing your progress.


Having a daily step target can help increase and average out your energy expenditure over the week.

If you’re finding you’re weight loss is stalling and you’re only in the first few weeks of a dieting phases consider how much you used to move versus now and consider tracking your steps as it’s one of the few ways we can track out NEAT.


Obviously we can't track how many calories typing burns 😉
